Job Description:
A Cosmetologist is anyone performing manicures, hair
cutting, styling, shampooing, makeup other cosmetology
services, according to The National Accrediting
Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences.

Salon Growth
2003 Cosmetology Job Demand Survey reported there
were 1,604,502 professionals employed in the nation's
312,959 beauty salons. Barber shops, skin care salons
and nail salons.  The typical salon is a small full service
salon with five work stations.  56% of salon owners report
at least one or two job openings available immediately.  
Even though 572,000 salon career positions were filled
nationally in 2002, a majority of salon owners across
America reported that they still had job openings!

Salon Employment
This is an industry that has tremendous career
opportunities for both full-time and part-time workers.
    60%, or the majority of salon employees work full
    time
    29% are part-time (20-35) hours,
    11% are low time (less than 20 hours) per week
    92% have one or more years of experience
    68% are employed by full-service salons
    88% of the work force is comprised of workers with
    less than one year of relevant salon experience.  This
    number is comparable to the current number of
    cosmetology school graduates.
    70% of salon owners classified their salon as full-
    service
    13% as a haircutting salon
    4% as a nail salon
    9% as a barber shop

What is P.M.C.A's Pass Rate?
P.M.C.A.'s pass rate at State Board is 100%!

Is P.M.C.A  accredited?
Not at this time.

What is Accreditation?
Accreditation means that schools have met certain academic and
institutional requirements established by the accrediting
organizations.


What is the difference between an accredited school and a non-
accredited school?
The primary difference is that accredited schools are able to offer
financial aid.

What is the difference between a Cosmetologist & a Barber?
A Cosmetologist can perform a wide variety of services from
haircutting, perming, curl reforming & relaxing, coloring, cosmetics,
facials, manicures, pedicures, massage techniques, hair removal, scalp
treatment and more. Cosmetology Professionals are governed by the
Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology.  Barbers are somewhat limited
to haircuts, scalp treatments, shaving and color, and are governed by
the Oklahoma Health Department.


What about the G.I. Bill?
We, at P.M.C.A, are now approved to accept students who qualify for
the G.I. Bill.  If you or your direct family have served our country you
may qualify.  Check with the Department of Veteran Affairs. They can
help you with this.

Do you work with students who are Native American?

YES.  We have several graduates who received assistance through
different Tribal Councils.  To qualify for this type of assistance check
with your tribe, and then get back with us and we will be happy to
assist you.

Do we offer financial aid?
Not at this time.  However, we do offer financing through our school,
so payment plans are easily available.

When do  classes begin?  
There are no set dates for classes to begin.  This means that we can
start you as soon as you are ready to begin.

What do I need to do to enroll?
Come in & fill out an application.  All that is needed to enroll is:
A completed application, SS card or driver's license, proof of
education such as transcript, diploma, or GED, and $105.00 for
registration.  

What are the class hours?
Current hours are:
Tuesday - Friday 8AM-5PM

How long will it take for me to complete the cosmetology course?
If you attend school on a full-time basis which is 32-40 hours a week,
the course can be completed within 10-12 months.  Part-time will be
upon consultations.

How long will it take for me to complete the nail tech/esthetician
course
?
If you attend our program full-time the course can be completed
within 5-6 months. Part-time will be upon consultation.

What is the minimum amount of hours needed per week?
The Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology requires students to attend
class at least 15 hours per week.

Penny has been a successful business woman in Pauls
Valley
, Oklahoma since 1988. She started her Cosmetology
career in 1982. Upon graduation she continued her education
with several different professional salon product companies.

Married with two children, she still found time and energy to
help with local charities, and civic groups and organizations.

In 1988 she purchased Phase II Hair Design, and in 2003
she converted the salon into Penny Miller Cosmetology
Academy-Phase  II.
